When Foundation Capital was formed, the firm's original partners brought with them the concept of the venture-sponsored Entrepreneur-in-Residence (EIR) program. EIR allows a select few individuals to apply their knowledge and experience to the mission of developing a solid business plan for an emerging technology. Foundation Capital provides the time, domain expertise, network, and capital to entrepreneurs with the expectation that, given the proper resources, great minds will come up with great ideas.

Over the past two decades, Foundation Capital's EIR program has resulted in a number of successful ventures, among them Atheros and Peribit. More recently, our EIR program has launched ONStor, Hammerhead Systems, and Solar Flare Communications. And more are on the way.
